Split Brain Syndrome is a condition that affects the corpus callosum, a bundle of neurologic nerves that formed the connections between the right and left hemispheres, from partial or complete severing or lesioning the corpus callosum. The corpus callosum connects both brain hemisphere, left and right; each hemispheres have specialities or way to interpret or create an action or reaction to same information; the LEFT hemisphere associate with analytic, calculating, reading, logic, of activities or assessing and interpreting activities or info with analysis and calculation; for some individuals it is the main hemisphere for speech and language even if the right hemisphere is associated with language as well; the RIGHT hemisphere is specialised in Spatial tasks, like reading a Map or Navigating a maze; both hemispheres are constantly communicating through the corpus callosum; the corpus callosum also serve in receiving sensory signals and transmitting them to the opposite hemisphere and through with motor control is performed on the opposite side of the body ( left hemisphere is controlling the right side of body and right hemisphere is controlling the left side of the body) explanation or link to paralysis or side paralysis affected possibly by miscommunication of opposite brain hemisphere (see symptoms paralysis in dissociative identity disorder point ref B for link to improve treatments) Split Brain Syndrome is caused mechanically by surgery called corpus callosotomy, severing partially or completely the corpus callosum or by health factors such as stroke, tumours, infectious lesions, ruptured artery, multiple sclerosis, agenesis of the corpus callosum where the connections didn’t formed completely or partially at birth, also a small part of affected by Marchiafava-Bignami disease, an alcoholism related condition that cause mostly stupor, seizures and coma but can also have symptoms of split brain syndrome; many of these causes may create spontaneous damage to the corpus callosum at different degree of damages; corpus callosotomy surgery was used on patient with severe epilepsy, with violent attacks from one side of the brain to the other, before the 21st century and rarely into the 21st century but replaced by medications or other procedures, attempting to reduce the seizures affecting both hemispheres during violent epileptic attacks; the life of patient can still apparently greatly improve from corpus callosotomy, as per reference A, from having less uncontrollable seizures BUT after the surgery patients develop acute hemispheric disconnection symptoms lasting for days or weeks and often acute and permanent; symptoms: many patients retain memory and social skills, functionnability and motor skills learned before the starts of the syndrome, like walking, swimming, biking, skills that involve both side of the body working in coordination; also eye movement coordination; Patients can learn new skills too that involve parallel or mirrored hands or finger movements, BUT not interdependent movements of each hands, like playing piano ; other symptoms affect the information to be communicate from one hemisphere to the other, like the sensory analysis, recognition ... ___sample of document, please contact author for the complete document __ Supporting Scans & Correlations Find below a chart of the different brain areas and their function and malfunction;
